After a series of serious criminal incidents in Saranda, Ilir Proda has finally been recalled. Within 48 hours, police structures in the coastal city have gone on alert, while RENEA conducted sea and land searches in abandoned areas of the suburbs to capture at least five wanted individuals, involved in two firearms incidents and an explosives explosion that occurred within just five days.
Another action took place on the evening of July 23, where officers from the Vlora operational unit, in civilian vehicles, stopped and checked vehicles on the tourist axes of Saranda and Ksamil. These measures come after harsh criticism of the lack of police response to the crime that has engulfed one of the country's main tourist destinations.
But while the attention of the officers is focused on serious crimes, the city is facing complete chaos in its daily management: traffic, beaches and minor conflicts are all out of control. The fundamental problem is related to the decision to cover at least four municipalities with a small police station without the necessary capacities, leaving the city overloaded with tourists at the mercy of unforeseen situations.
Security experts emphasize that such structures cannot simultaneously cope with organized crime and manage basic security, raising serious questions about the planning and management of the State Police in the summer season.
