The head of the Urban Traffic sector, deputy commissioner Nikolla Babai, has been suspended from his post, after the publication on social media of a video in which he appears grabbing a young man by his sweatshirt in Berat, who refuses to hand over his documents. It is learned that a disciplinary investigation has been launched against him.
The police have also put under investigation the 28-year-old MN, a resident of Berat, for the criminal offense of "Disobedience to the order of a public order Police officer". Also, this citizen was punished with an administrative measure of 4000 Lek and suspension of the driver's license. .
Immediately after the publication of a video on the JOQ social network, the Director of the Local Directorate of the Berat Police immediately suspended from his duties the Police Deputy Commissioner NB, with the duties of Head of the Urban and Interurban Traffic Section in the Berat DVP .
We clarify that yesterday, all Berat Police structures were engaged in the smooth running of activities in the city, as well as traffic management, on the occasion of Summer Day.
At around 14:00, on 14.03.2024, the Road Police employees stopped the vehicle driven by the MN citizen (which also appears in the published video) as at that moment, on the way down, there was a flow of vehicles and pedestrians. The driver of the vehicle was not obeying the order of the Police to wait a few minutes, until the road was cleared, but he opposed them and then turned off the vehicle on the road and tried to leave, blocking the road.
For this reason, the driver of the vehicle was escorted to the premises of the Police Station. At the end of the actions, the specialists of the Traffic Police Sector referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against the MN citizen, 28 years old, resident in Berat, for the criminal offense of "Disobeying the order of the Public Order Police Officer". Also, this citizen was punished with an administrative measure of ALL 4000 and with the suspension of the driver's license, based on article 190, points 2 and 6, of the Road Code.
In relation to the actions of the police officer, the Directorate of Professional Standards in the State Police has launched a disciplinary investigation for the traffic police officer Deputy Commissioner NB, who appears in the published video. - announces the police.
