Lawyer Romeo Kara: Meta will stay in prison for a long time, Berisha was

The lawyer Romeo Kara spoke about the recent decisions of justice, including the security measure against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, the impact of these processes on Albanian politics, as well as the expectations for the justice of the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK). He spoke about the role of other figures such as Ilir Meta and the importance of investigations based on the "SKY ECC" application.

The lawyer is convinced that the former president Meta will stay in prison for a long time. On the other hand, he says that the decision of the Special Court of Appeal for Berisha is not complete, since the leader of the PD and the militants behind him have the power of intimidation against this process and have actually exercised it on all levels, including personal attacks to any prosecutor or judge involved in the process. Meanwhile, the lawyer Kara warns that Berisha can spoil the evidence that could sink him in the "Partizani" affair and other issues that he has open with the justice system.

- Mr. Kara, how do you see the decision of the Special Court of Appeal regarding the security measure, the obligation to appear twice a month before the judicial police for the former prime minister Sali Berisha? Do you believe that he will respect this measure?

I look at this decision as a correction of an unjust decision with many negative consequences, given a few months ago by the First Degree GJKKO and interpreted and celebrated as a political achievement of Berisha and the militants around him. However, this decision is not complete in my opinion, since it has already been proven that Berisha and the militants behind him have the power of intimidation against this process and have actually exercised it on all levels, including personal attacks against any prosecutor or judge. involved in the process. Not only that, but it was universally accepted and emphasized by the Berisha family itself, that the decision given by Judge Davidhi was the result of continuous protests by the parents, protests with the only goal: taking justice hostage.

-What do you think will be the impact of this decision on the Democratic Party and Sali Berisha's supporters, given that the parliamentary elections are in a few months?

First, we predicted that the return of Berisha to the head of the DP was done only with the purpose of using it as an anti-justice, anti-punishment and anti-USA bunker. Secondly, Berisha's Democratic Party, since we have a distance of several groups from it, is in the same situation as him in relation to justice, and this is easily proven, if we do a quick biography of its leaders, who turn out to be unjustifiably enriched and exercise oppositionism from hotels, villas inside and outside the country, businesses, luxury cars, etc.

No matter how much this grouping becomes united around Berisha non grata, they will never have the morals of true oppositionism and God's right to return to power. They are only playing with one political card, that of political destabilization in order to take power on the table, so the future will be their recycling, that is, returning to the past, keeping this country and this people hostage for as long as possible. However, they are also satisfied with a certain number of seats in the parliament as opposition. I believe that they aim more precisely at the latter.

-Investigations on the "Partizani" case by SPAK, where ex-prime minister Sali Berisha is suspected to be involved, have been closed and in the meantime it is expected to be decided whether the file will go to trial or not. What do you expect to happen to them and what are your expectations for the completion of this process?

Like every Albanian who feels responsibility and regret for his country, I wish and hope that this process will give the justice that has been missing for three decades, the well-deserved punishment of the chief criminal Berisha and the first precedent that we deserve and realize justice and no one can be above the law. For all these reasons, this process is and will remain in the future a historical process. I have only one expectation: Berisha's well-deserved punishment.

- Do you think that SPAK will be determined in the fight against corruption, including high-ranking officials, despite the political pressures it may have?

Undoubtedly yes. All political pressures must be multiplied by zero. Those who break before such pressures must resign. This is a historic confrontation with injustice, so we cannot tolerate any wavering of this structure's resolve in the face of crime. On the contrary, we should enrich our criminal code regarding the tightening of measures against the pressure on prosecutors and judges to not deliver justice. We can apply these measures for a transitional period of 10-15 years.

-How do you assess the current position of Ilir Meta, taking into account the investigations that are being carried out against him for several affairs? What do you think about his political future?

It is exactly in the position and place it deserves. It is exactly where it has been asking for years to be. No one does prison better than him. I warned about this on the very day he was inaugurated as president on July 24, 2017, when I said: "If Kaçi (Ismailaj) cannot go to Likja, then Likja will go to Kaçi." So Likja went exactly where Kaçi was. And let's not forget that this is just the beginning for him. As it seems, Likja will stay for a long time where he went, he will break a few pairs of springs doing training and he will have enough time to react and reflect on the next life, because for this life I believe he has closed his accounts. He has given us his word that, at the age of 80, he will return as president. Let's see if he will realize this political objective, because for the others I see the mandate with ink.

- What impact will the legitimization of investigations based on the "SKY ECC" application by the Constitutional Court have on the fight against crime and corruption in Albania?

The most positive possible impact, just like in Europe where these interceptions have turned into the nightmare of organized crime at all levels. We will have a well-deserved cleansing of politics, media, police, justice and business from a hostage-taking cancer that has invaded every cell of our lives. We will have a presentation of the great truths, the reality so far in the shadows and the establishment of justice based on these truths./ TODAY
