Cancerous diseases are registering a continuous increase in Albania. Over the past year, over 7 thousand people have been diagnosed with cancer, while these pathologies constitute the primary cause of 16 percent of deaths in the country, ranking second after cardiovascular diseases in terms of loss of life.

Updated data up to 2024 show an increase in some forms of cancer, also linked to lifestyle. In men, an increase in cases of lung, stomach, prostate and colon cancer is noted. In women, breast cancer remains the most common, with about 800 new cases each year.

Hospitals also report an increase in admissions and treatments for tumor diseases, which reflects a growing burden on the health system. Health authorities emphasize that improving oncology services and treating patients with serious diseases remain a priority challenge.

Projections indicate a further increase in cancer cases in the coming years, also as a result of the aging population. Men are the most affected, with over 3,800 new cases during the last year, while about 3,200 new cases have been registered among women.
