New details are published from the drowning of the 7-year-old Albanian Nikolas in the sea yesterday in the area of Arvi Xrakleios in Crete.
The child's mother, who was at home with the baby, was arrested for manslaughter and has been released by order of the prosecutor.
Nikolas, a first grader, was with his mother at their house near the beach and wanted to swim.
His mother refused, but the little boy managed to escape her attention and went swimming with a friend to the beach.
According to reports, the sea was rough and the little boy was swept away by a strong wave.
"The parents were looking for him, he left the house without realizing it. This child loved the sea very much, he regularly went to the sea. He was found alone and when they discovered him it was too late," said Pavlos Baritakis, mayor of Viannos.
A resident of the area saw the child in the water and immediately raised the alarm.
"There was no wind, but the sea is very dangerous because there are currents. The current took him from there and brought him to the port, but he had lost consciousness. He had a slight pulse, but he wasn't breathing. For half an hour several people who knew first aid were trying to revive him. When the ambulance arrived, even the doctors noticed that the child had a pulse. There was no one on the beach to see the child," said an eyewitness.
Nikolas and his parents lived in Arvi in recent years. His parents work during the day and mostly in greenhouses. According to local residents, they are excellent people who take care of their family.
According to cretalive.gr, the desire of her father and his mother Nikolas is to bury their child in Albania, but due to their financial situation they cannot afford either the transport of the body or the funeral ceremony.
Therefore, a Greek association has taken over the costs of transporting and burying Nikolas in Albania, while it is starting a fundraiser in cooperation with the association of parents and guardians of Arvi kindergarten and primary school, as well as school teachers.
His teacher, with tears in his eyes, said that he cannot believe that Nikolas will not be at school on Monday.
"He was a perfect child, he became an angel early," he told neakriti.gr and KRETĞ Tv.
