Journalist Klodiana Lala called Edi Rama's stance on detention hypocritical in a speech she gave to the Socialist Party parliamentary group. Lala said that Rama has been a promoter of keeping people in detention even for electricity, referring to the government's campaign to imprison people who did not pay for their energy.
" Rama remembered today to talk about detention and security measures? In 2014 or 2015, we had people commit suicide in prisons because they couldn't pay the electricity bills. We had people who were criminalized because they drove illegally.
