The IMT file should not be turned into a bargaining chip for security measures. It should be investigated who built it, who allowed it, who paid for it, and who is currently trying to save those involved.
The case of illegal construction in Saranda is taking on new scandalous proportions. According to information obtained, four more employees of IMT Saranda, who were wanted as part of the investigation into favoring illegal construction, surrendered yesterday.
Their simultaneous surrender has raised strong suspicions that they presented themselves to the police with the belief that their security measures would be relaxed and that they would be released.
At the center of these suspicions is the name of Mariglen Basho, the son of the uncle of the prosecutor in the case, Esmeralda Basho. According to the complaints, Mariglen Basho is suspected of playing the role of intermediary in the contacts and possible bargains for the facilitation of measures against the persons involved in the IMT Saranda file.
The case is similar to that of Irakli Koçiaj, a police officer in Ksamil, who was sentenced to "prison arrest", but after surrendering, the measure was replaced with "compulsory appearance", at the request of the prosecutor.
The questions are straightforward: who guaranteed the four IMT employees that they would benefit from a reduced sentence? Why were the Saranda Police and Prosecution silent about their surrender? What role does Mariglen Basho have in this file?
If these denunciations are confirmed, then the scandal is no longer just about illegal construction. The scandal goes to the very way justice is being managed in Saranda.
The IMT file should not be turned into a bargaining chip for security measures. It should be investigated who built it, who allowed it, who paid for it, and who is currently trying to save those involved.
Saranda needs an investigation into illegal construction, but also an investigation into the investigation itself./ Pamphlet
