Journalist Klodian Tomorri spoke about new details from SPAK's investigation into corruption in the army. Tomorri said that there are a series of issues that are being investigated that affect the army and the Ministry of Defense. He said that until now it is known that the mobile phone of the commander of the Air Force has been seized.
The journalist points out that the investigations are not only limited within the FA, but also at the political level.
Asked if America has a hand, Tomorri said that it is a logical hypothesis, since Washington and NATO are sensitive to security issues.
" It is a matter under investigation and information that is public is always reserved. What we do know is that there is a SPAK investigation into the Air Force, but not only that. There are several investigations that affect the Albanian army. In the case of the commander of the Air Force, it has been confirmed that his mobile phone has been seized in connection with some investigations for some tenders that are also related to the maintenance of helicopters and other actions. The investigations have not stopped only at the commander of the Air Fleet, there are seizures of lower level leaders of the Air Force, and other military personnel, including the Ground Force and civilian officials in the Ministry of Defense. We don't have just one issue that is being investigated, but several issues at the same time, namely the tenders, privatizations and alienations of the army's properties.
There are several investigations that affect the army and the Ministry of Defense. It is about the time when the ministry was headed by Mrs. Xhaçka. There is the issue of the Saranda base, which has been seized, we have the issue of the museum in Bërzhitë, the unauthorized constructions inside the military bases, and so on. Corruption has entered the Albanian army. Experience has also shown in neighboring countries that when corruption enters the army, there are sensational arrests. It is a logical hypothesis that the Americans can have a hand, because they are sensitive to security issues. Albania is a NATO country and what happens here is also of interest to others, as they have access to information. If the Albanian army is corroded by corruption, it also harms NATO allied countries.
In recent years, we have seen growing voices denouncing that there is corruption in the army as well. Due to the increase in expenses, but the tenders are one side, the other side is what happened to the army's properties, since the army has owned some of the most coveted areas of the country, especially the coastal ones, where over 140 ha have been alienated lands, or army properties, that are drawn from the spread plan. They have often attempted to be privatized without being taken out of the diffusion plan at all. Ms. Xhaçka has been summoned to SPAK several times, and may even be the official who has been summoned to the Special Prosecutor's Office the most. This shows that the investigations are not limited only within the FA, but also at the political level. I don't know if there are investigations in Mr. Peleshi's time ", said Tomori in "MCN".
