A joint operation between SPAK and anti-mafia structures in Bari has led to the crackdown on a criminal group that was operating in Albania and Italy.
During a joint press conference with the chief prosecutor of Bari, SPAK chief prosecutor, Klodian Braho, announced that during the investigations, around 1 million euros in cash, as well as other assets suspected of stemming from criminal activity, were seized.
On the other hand, the chief prosecutor of Bari praised the cooperation between the Italian authorities and SPAK, emphasizing that the investigations have uncovered several serious criminal events, including a murder that occurred in the Puglia region, which according to him shows the spread of Albanian mafia groups in Italian territory. He also underlined that the operation has identified connections and collaborations between criminal organizations.
The Italian Chief Prosecutor also noted the importance of the measures taken by SPAK to seize money and assets suspected of being the proceeds of crime, while thanking the Albanian authorities for the arrest of a person wanted in both Albania and Italy.
He added that the cooperation between the parties, also supported by Eurojust, has been ongoing for 10 years and will be further strengthened in the future, expressing his belief that Albania will be able to successfully fight mafia groups.
"We have discovered several criminal events. A murder. A collaboration between mafia groups. A murder recorded in the Puglia region in Italy that in a way shows the expansion of the Albanian mafia in our territory. As well as the measures that SPAK has taken to seize money and property. We have done a very good job with SPAK. We thank them for the arrest of a person who was wanted in Albania and Italy. Thanks also to Eurojust, a collaboration has lasted for 10 years and will continue to cooperate. We are convinced that Albania will manage to fight its mafia with its forces and we will stand by it. We will have mutual cooperation ," said the chief prosecutor of Bari.
