Former president Bamir Topi has commented on the political situation in the country and the deadlock created in the Assembly.
In an interview for "A2CNN", he focused on the constitutional changes of 15 years ago, emphasizing that at that time he had foreseen the developments that have already taken place and he had also talked about this with Sali Berisha.
"The person who initiated the constitutional change of 2008 was Sali Berisha. I was at the head of the state and I made a public appeal. I gave my arguments, I was even convinced that the situation would come to this point where it is today. I told him: Be careful because you will not always be prime minister. I have said it publicly. What is being done, I told him at that time, is aiming to return Albania to the format of a prime ministerial republic, but the one who will come, as far as I know, you will have a very hard time defeating him. Since Rama arrived in 2013, I have been an eyewitness, a professional, of what Edi Rama has done. It was and still is irresistible ," said the former president.
Furthermore, Bamir Topi said that he is surprised with Prime Minister Edi Rama, who, according to him, is politically insatiable.
" I feel a great surprise, when a person has been in power for so many years, he must think that he has more days. But this one, after taking everyone, being greedy, I'm not talking about the economic part, but the political greed, continues to take institutions and overthrow others. Even the People's Advocate, who should meet the opposition, continues to be unelected" , said Topi.
