The 1957 study that was published a few months ago by the state archive, showed that Albania, according to an Italian study, was the second in the world after Japan for seismic activity.
This turned into a rather worrying discussion for a good part of the Albanians.
But invited this morning to "7pa5" on Vizion Plus, seismologist Edmond Dushi said that 1950 is too early to have such a study.
"These were the years when the concept of regionalization began to be introduced in a massive way. And the concept of modernization began to be introduced in this field. Seismology is late in the monitoring sense. The inability to monitor and measure the earthquake was such that only after 1900 did the first sensors begin to be installed. The 50s are too early to say that such a database has been created to give a clear conclusion.
But the first zonings are mainly geological zonings, based on the geology of the territory of Albania, and that's where the first tectonic concepts started. There was information in the old archives, mainly the Ottoman Empire, which started to be the basis of the first seismology.
We can not do without that part from the archive. Seismology has monitoring, science, and interactions of disciplines that lead to a clearer analysis.
So the year 1957 is too early to have the study that Albania is the second in the world after Japan for seismic territory", concluded the seismologist.
