Following the departure of Ilir Proda from the position of Director General of the State Police, the process for selecting his successor has entered the final phase of applications. Wednesday, March 11, is the last day when candidates can submit documentation to participate in the competition.
Applications can be submitted in two forms. Candidates have the option to submit the documents physically at the Ministry of Interior's protocol office until 4:30 PM, while via email the deadline is extended until midnight.
Up to this stage of the process, eight candidates have reportedly submitted their applications to the Ministry of Interior. All are experienced officials in the State Police structures and aim to lead the institution for a five-year mandate, as defined by law.
Among the names that have submitted their candidacy is Pëllumb Seferi, currently the Director of International Relations at the State Police. He is known for his involvement in coordinating several extradition operations in recent years.
Also in the running is Elidon Çela, the current director of the Vlora Police. In the past, he headed the Police Supervision Agency in Tirana and held several leadership positions within the police structures.
Another candidate is Skënder Hitaj, the director of the Fier Police, who has previously held leadership positions in the Shkodër and Dibër regions.
Meanwhile, the list of applicants also includes Idajet Faskaj, who during his career has held high management positions in the State Police.
After the application deadline closes, the Ministry of Interior is expected to continue with the other phases of verification and evaluation of candidates, before proposing the name of the new head of the State Police.
