The Speaker of the Parliament, Lindita Nikolla, has announced from the floor of the Assembly that she will retire from her post after 3 years in office.
Lindita Nikolla has announced that she will leave the post of Speaker of the Assembly during the last session of this parliamentary session.
Tonight in the Parliament, Nikolla said that her departure is due to a personal health situation, which makes it impossible for her to perform her duties.
Nikolla closed the resignation announcement with a plea not to be speculated as a politician as he says that the impossibility pushed him to resign.
"I took the floor at the end of this sixth session of the Xth legislature of the Assembly of Albania, to share with all of you an information that, out of respect for the institution, I believe I should give it looking you in the eye.
Dear colleagues of the parliamentary majority and respected colleagues of the parliamentary opposition!
Here, today, my three-year service at the head of the Assembly comes to an end, as a result of a personal health situation, which makes it impossible for me to perform the high duty of the second functionary of the state with the demanding commitment that this duty requires.
I have tried to give my best every day to ensure the smooth running of the work of this parliament. Without taking revenge on anyone in this room. If I have created a different impression on someone, I assure them that it was not my intention in any way. If I have inadvertently wronged anyone, I apologize.
If at certain moments, not at all easy, when this hall has experienced unworthy conflict situations, I have been forced to take the side of reason and the regulation of this Assembly, I have not done this as a party but as the first among 140 equals .
Fortunately, beyond the acts of theatrical politics here in this hall, where I have also received some undeserved verbal attacks, from working off-camera I have the good feeling of respect that you all have given me. I thank you all and I hope you all get the same scar from me.
I want to thank the entire administration of the Assembly for the great work they do every day in support of parliamentary activity. I want to thank all the support services employees for their dedication to their work. I want to wish all of you with all my heart that you have the motivation, commitment and full health to continue the noble mission of representing the Albanians. I am closing with the prayer that there is no political speculation with this unwanted but inevitable departure of mine, because I believe that there is nothing more human than the impossibility that forced me to take this step.
Many thanks with deep gratitude to my colleagues who gave me the privilege of their trust for this office, to the constituents who gave me their vote to represent them in this Assembly, where I will do my best until the end, and to my family who has stood by me every step of the way.
Now I will have more time and opportunity to stay closer to both my family and my constituents.
A special acknowledgment and thanks to our president and prime minister, as well as to my now old comrade in arms, Edi Rama, without his trust and permanent support, since I took the leadership of administrative unit number 1 of Tirana 17 years ago, I would not have I would have been able to make so many roads. All the best to you and your families. Thank you once again", said Nikola.
We remind you that Lindita Nikolla has held the position of Speaker of the Assembly since September 2021. Nikolla was elected as head of the Albanian Assembly with 79 votes in favor and 4 votes against.
137 deputies participated in the vote, but the opposition deputies, of the Democratic Party of Albania, decided to tear up the ballot papers during the voting process. / Pamphlet
