Following the shocking execution of judge Astrit Kalaja, the head of the Chamber of Advocates, Maks Haxhia, has made an unusual statement, pointing the finger at the entire system: justice, lawyers, the state and society as a whole.
" I don't want to take the flag of what we have said before, but this event takes us back to a reality that we have denied. People are not being heard here ," Haxhia said.
He spoke on "Top Story" about a "macabre terrain" that, according to him, has been created by institutional negligence, professional arrogance and lack of reaction. "This citizen, this father, was killed by everyone. We lawyers also have our share of guilt," he declared, also hitting out at the profession he represents.
Maks Haxhia: It makes us go back to the past to what we have been asking for. I do not want to take the position of a critic, or to take the flag of what we have said before. Here in Albania, people are not listened to. If it were taken seriously and a product were released that would serve the people, today would be a different situation.
We are faced with a macabre terrain that is fueled by carelessness. As I have always been, openly, I am a lawyer and I hold this profession sacred, we are all guilty here.
We all killed this father, this citizen. We lawyers also have our part, lawyers must be humane and realistic, tell the client that this is not done, if he is told that it is being done, he feels insulted. He was a man who, when he went home, went to be quiet.

Edhe ne rastin e vrasjes se prokurorit Kalaja morali popullor nuk denon Zotin Shakbi, por prokurorin, i cili me vendimet e tij gjate 12 viteve e kishte mashtruar e vjedhur. Nje drejtesi qe nuk eshte ne perputhje me moralin e popullit le shume per te deshiruar, ajo eshte e korruptuar dhe populli e urren.
