Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has reacted regarding the reception centers for immigrants in Lezha, as she has described them as an innovative model.
The Italian Prime Minister declared that in the coming weeks the reception centers for immigrants in Gjadër of Lezha will be opened in Albania, where the requests for asylum will be processed.
Although it was anticipated that the centers would be opened on September 1, the Italian Prime Minister has emphasized that they will be functional in the coming weeks, but without specifying the date.
She has also emphasized that operational difficulties have been encountered in setting up these centers, which, according to her, are being overcome.
"As you know, in the coming weeks the centers provided by the memorandum of understanding with Albania will be fully functional to process asylum requests in Albanian territory, but under Italian and European jurisdiction. In the last months, as Ministers Plantosi and Crosetto know well, we have encountered various operational difficulties, but we are overcoming them one by one because we believe a lot in this innovative project", said Meloni.
According to the Italian media , Meloni explained that the reception center for immigrants in Albania will also serve as an innovative model for other countries, as he referred to some of the declarations of the member countries of the European Union.
"Its potential effectiveness is shown by the mobilization not only of the European left, but of international NGOs which, as you have read, are mobilizing against the Protocol. Except that at the same time, most of the member states of the European Union asked the Commission to take it as a model and as an innovative solution. We are aware that we will be under surveillance and therefore we will do everything in the right way", Meloni emphasized.
