Marta Kos' message to Rama, Berisha, Meta and other enemies of reform:

EU Commissioner for Enlargement issues ultimatum to politicians: Guarantee the independence of the Special Prosecution Office

The European Parliament will vote tomorrow on the progress reports for Albania for the years 2023 and 2024.

In the debate held in Strasbourg, the main attention was focused on the results of justice and in particular on the work of SPAK, the institution that, according to Brussels, represents the brightest face of the reform.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, clearly praised the work of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime, emphasizing that it is today the most trusted institution by Albanian citizens. She called for the full protection and independence of this structure to be guaranteed.

" The good results of the Special Structure Against Organized Crime and Corruption are positive steps that are also highlighted in the Parliament's report. It is vital that Albania continues to show concrete progress in key areas. In this context, the independence of the Special Structure must be fully preserved. SPAK is today the most trusted institution in the country. This must be protected and strengthened ," said Kos during her speech at the session. A message that seems to go to Edi Rama, Sali Berisha, Ilir Meta and all those who are working under the rug against SPAK.

In the same vein, the Commissioner stressed that the accession negotiations with Albania are progressing at a rapid pace and that some of the important chapters have been completed. “ This report comes at a crucial moment, as the process is moving at an unprecedented pace. Albania is showing serious commitment to this process, while the EU is keeping its word, following the merit-based approach ”, she added.

In closing, Kos emphasized the geopolitical importance of Albania and the region at this stage: " In the current international context, Albania and the Western Balkans remain a strategic priority for the European Union ."
