Analyst Frrok Çupi considers the event of April 2, 1991 in Shkodra, where four people lost their lives, as one of the most serious episodes that has left deep traces in the country's history.
In an interview with "Last Minute" on ABC News, he stated that this event directly influenced the shaping of the Democratic Party and the political developments of that time.
Çupi stressed that the day in question marked an important turning point in the way of governance and the path towards pluralism, describing it as a period when violence and divisions began to set in within the country. He argued that the event has been used over the years for various political purposes and remains a controversial moment in Albania's modern history.
"It was a very difficult day, which left its mark on our country. I was one of the protagonists. The phone rang, I was the editor-in-chief of RD, someone from Shkodra announced that two people had been killed. I walked to the DP headquarters, there was indifference, carelessness. Azem Hajdari went to Shkodra. Without realizing it, that day marked a very big turning point in the way of governance. It marked the installation of violence, division between the areas of the country and in those days the pluralist system was being installed. We came to a bloody pluralism. It has been misused from the beginning, it is painful. It has been used until now. At first, the murder was committed with the aim of relieving tension within the DP.
Azem Hajdari intended to destroy some leaflets in Shkodra, where a visit of the military unit was planned. Berisha had tried to make Shkodra his bastion. The DP began its life as a city party, up to the point where it defeated Ramiz Alina in Tirana, after which the siege of the city from the suburbs and villages began. The DP is an anti-city party. The other 3 were killed because Arben Broci was killed. Broci was celebrating because Shkodra, the DP had won 70 percent of the votes. He was celebrating with the Shkoders, he ran into what was being fabricated as a rally", emphasized Çupi.
