The Criminal Court does not change the security measure against the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
Veliaj, through his lawyers, had requested a change in the security measure, while the GJKKO was informed of the two-month investigative information conducted by SPAK.
According to the Special Prosecution Office, 114 investigative actions have been carried out at this time, including the control of seized mobile phones and the collection of testimony.
After two months in detention, Veliaj requested his release from prison. The April 16 hearing was postponed because his lawyers requested time to review the investigative documents, so preliminary judge Erjon Bani decided to postpone the hearing by 1 week.
Earlier, the mayor of Tirana appealed the GJKKO measure in the Special Appeal, but the second instance rejected his request, leaving in force the decision given by Erjon Bani in the security measures assessment session on February 12.
Veliaj is accused of the criminal offenses of "passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials" in 9 cases, as well as "laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity."
