Yesterday's decision by the Constitutional Court that ruled in favor of journalist Elton Qyno in his nearly two-year legal battle with SPAK for the protection of information sources has been welcomed by the European Federation for the Protection of Journalists.
On the other hand, the Federation's reaction is harsh towards the anti-constitutional acts pursued by special prosecutors in the case of the "Ora News" television journalist, whose phones and computer work materials were seized both in his private home and car, as well as in his work premises.
"We welcome the court's decision with great relief, as it complies with European standards for the protection of journalistic sources."
For us, it remains unimaginable that the prosecutors of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime believed that they were authorized to violate the law.
"This deviation constitutes a very serious threat, not only to journalism, but also, and above all, to democracy and the rule of law in Albania," the European Federation for the Protection of Journalists said in a statement.
