Over 120 cases per day in Fier emergency room, doctors: Symptoms lasting several

Over 120 patients present for medical assistance every day at the Fier Emergency Room, as a result of seasonal viruses and flu.

Doctor Ilva Çuni speaks of a high influx of infected people between the age groups of 15–25 and 70–80, while unfortunately there have been no shortage of cases with fatal consequences.

According to the doctor, the peak of the flu was recorded during the months of November and December, where the number of daily visits to the emergency room reached up to 160 patients in 24 hours.

"Every day, over 120 patients present at the Fier Emergency Room, while during the peak of the flu, the number has gone up to 160 patients in 24 hours," says Doctor Çuni.

She emphasizes that the month of January has recorded a record number of citizens seeking medical assistance, with around 4,000 cases treated in the Emergency Room of the Fier Regional Hospital alone.

The doctor tells "TCH" that this year's flu, compared to last year, is characterized by a longer duration of symptoms, as well as their return after a few days of improvement.

The most affected by the viral conditions have been patients with chronic diseases, some of whom have been hospitalized. In this context, Dr. Çuni calls for increased caution in the use of antibiotics, which should only be taken with the recommendation of a family doctor.

"Antibiotics should not be taken without the recommendation of a family doctor, as in many cases they are not necessary and can worsen the condition ," emphasizes Dr. Çuni.
