Cases of SPAM messages on WhatsApp have increased recently, raising concerns about the security of accounts and access to personal data stored on mobile phones.
IT expert Tomi Kallanxhi has explained how this fraud scheme works and what happens after hackers manage to temporarily gain access.
"A WhatsApp SMS or message does not put all personal data at risk, but access to the application may be blocked for several hours. A third party cannot take control of your number or access the materials on the phone," Kallanxhi told "News 24".
According to him, SPAM links are mainly used to take control of the Facebook accounts of users over 45, whom he described as "digitally naive."
"The profiles obtained are then used to distribute links to illegal content on social networks, such as advertisements for cryptocurrencies or products that are not allowed to be promoted on Facebook. Usually, within one or two weeks, the platform identifies this activity and blocks the account ," he said.
The IT expert called for utmost caution, stressing: "Six-digit codes coming from Facebook or WhatsApp should not be shared with anyone, under any circumstances."
