The Academy of Sciences supervises all the scientific workers of the Academy of Albanological Studies. A decision dated December 19, signed by Skënder Gjinushi, will de facto decide which of the scientific employees will stick to the suit sewn by the Academy of Sciences, within the approved merger with VKM.
According to the decision with protocol number 918, Gjinushi authorizes the establishment of two commissions that will examine the scientific workers.
The first commission, consisting of Adem Bunguri, Aleksandër Dhima, Marenglen Verli and Paskal Milo, will decide on the scientific employees of the Institute of Archeology and History.
Another commission, composed of Ethem Likaj, Afërdita Onuzi, Josif Papagjoni and Valter Memisha, will decide on the scientific employees of the Institutes of Linguistics, Literature, Anthropology and the Encyclopedia Center.
According to the decision, scientific researchers must submit to the evaluation commissions by December 23, a CV, a list of their scientific publications, an overview of the activity of the last four years, and if the commission deems it reasonable in special cases, also conduct job interviews, which suggests that everyone is already insecure.
Only three days later, on December 26, the commissions will deliver the evaluations to Gjinushi, the head of the Academy, and Memisha, acting rector of Albanology.
Gjinushi's decision leaves unclear, firstly where it is based since there is no VKM that clarifies the restructuring of Albanianological institutes in units, and secondly, what is the fate of the scientific workers after the evaluations of the commissions.
The decision, as much as it paves the way for fusion, also puts academic freedom on the edge of a knife, for which the Vkm that gives the institutes to the academy was seen with criticism from the top./ Balkanweb
