After days of negotiations and discussions, Paolo Maldini has decided to accept a return to Italian football, taking on the role of technical director and president of Club Italia, the structure that coordinates Italy's national teams.
According to Italian media, the decision was made over the weekend, after a period of reflection, ending the wait for the legendary former Milan and Italy captain to return to a leadership role.
Leonardo will also be involved in the new project. The former Brazilian manager is expected to take on the role of advisor, reuniting with Maldini after their experience at Milan. Leonardo was the one who brought Maldini back to the red and black club in the summer of 2018, starting a successful period for the club.
Meanwhile, following Maldini's appointment, the Italian Federation's focus will shift to choosing a new national team coach. Roberto Mancini remains the favorite, with his appointment expected to be made official next week.
If confirmed, the return of Maldini and Leonardo would mark the start of a new project for the Italian national team, with the aim of returning it to the highest levels of international football.
