The court of Vlora has again postponed the session, which was supposed to be held today for the 8 police officers of Himara, after the tragedy in Potam where the police officer Arjan Tase crashed to death with the 7-year-old Jonada Avdia's speedboat.
The reason for the postponement of the session was the lack of lawyers for the defendants, while the date for the next session was set for January 17, 2024.
Also present was the minor's grandfather, Ismet Avdia, who, in a statement to the media, said that he has faith in justice, but he added that he is afraid of a court scenario. According to him, the postponement of the hearings is being done deliberately so that the accused are given a minimum sentence.
"This is the eighth session of a preliminary trial that lasts almost 6 months, at a time when for 8 months the honorable prosecutor managed to close the file. It was postponed again today. We are very worried, I want to declare through your screens.
This is a scenario, I have suspected this scenario, but it became a reality. This scenario created a strain to convince the public and the high court guides that this case should be tried together as it has been investigated. They separated him and this separation creates space for a shortened trial and in the end the scenario will be a symbolic punishment after two years. We still believe in justice, but we call on the higher bodies of justice to see it. The tragedy of Himara is a painful part not only of our family, but of the entire Albanian people. This is a scenario to soften the punishment for those who killed Jonada", said Ismet Avdia.
We recall that on December 1, the Court of Vlora shared the file of the August 2022 event in Himarë. The former police officer will be tried separately, without the other 8 police officers of Himara, on charges of abuse of office.
7-year-old Jonada Avdia lost her life in August 2022, tragically on the Potam beach of Himara while bathing in the sea, after being hit by a dinghy, which, contrary to the rules, was sailing inside the security cordon.
