Former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu seems to be asking for mercy for what happened in Gërdec. 26 people's lives were taken due to the state's mistake, and today in court former subordinates of Fatmir Mediu testified. The former minister himself was present at the session. While after the process, he spoke to the media asking for forgiveness.
" I came today because there were witnesses who worked with me and followed my orders. The previous witnesses were not related to the work of the Minister of Defense. I came today out of respect for the court and expressing my apologies to the family for what happened to them. I can no longer undo what happened and I apologize. This process must be legal and equal for the parties ", said Mediu, among others.
On the other hand, Mediu wants to escape with procedure. According to him, one of the guarantee points of the judicial process, that of the statute of limitations, has been violated.
" The Supreme Court has said that a convicted person who leaves to escape punishment after a while is innocent. I have been here, I have not hidden from the processes. This violation is completely flagrant.
I think that these are much more relevant than some people who worked in Gërdec who did not even follow the orders of the Minister of Defense. The Minister of Defense has not had a single moment where it was announced that there was a problem in Gërdec ", said Mediu.
