Another ship with deported migrants arrived this Thursday at the port of Shëngjin, bringing to Albanian soil another 15 people whose asylum requests were rejected in Italy.
The Italian Coast Guard vessel docked at the port around 6:00 PM and, after expedited procedures at the reception center, the foreigners will be transferred to the Gjadri camp.
This is the fourth contingent to arrive in Albania as part of the controversial agreement between the Albanian and Italian governments, signed by Prime Ministers Edi Rama and Giorgia Meloni. The agreement, criticized by some human rights organizations, foresees that migrants who are stopped in Italian waters and do not receive asylum will be sent for further processing in Albania.
According to official sources, around 30 migrants are currently being housed in the Gjadri camp, while there is a lack of transparency about their origin, legal status and treatment conditions.
