Mërtiri: 'Diella' is not an innovation, but Rama's PR

Analyst Ergys Mërtiri has cast strong doubts on the Albanian government's project to create a "virtual minister" with artificial intelligence, introduced under the name "Diella".

According to Mërtiri, this project has nothing to do with technological innovation, but is a propaganda maneuver by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

" 'Diella' is more of a PR campaign that the prime minister is doing. It is an element that is done to attract attention, to produce a media effect. To deceive a good part of Albanians with the idea that we are making very advanced innovations in technology. And on the other hand to attract the attention of the international public that Albania is a country that experiments in the field of technology ," said Mërtiri in an interview for Ora News.

He added that Rama is attempting to create a false image of Albania in the eyes of the European Union: " Rama seeks to lie to Albanians with the idea that this is the Albania that we are projecting and this is the image of Albania that we are projecting in the EU ."

Mertiri noted that the use of technology in tenders is seen as an excuse to avoid political responsibilities and to make citizens believe that corruption has disappeared.

" The use of technology for tenders is another way to avoid accountability, to lull the public into thinking that tenders will no longer be awarded to corrupt ministers, but that technology is now the one that selects them ," he said.
