One of the most degraded areas of Shkodra, the former military department in Bërdicë, covered for decades by tons of scrap metal and hundreds of blocked vehicles, is finally being returned to citizens. Following the decision of the Council of Ministers to transfer the property to the administration of the Shkodra Municipality, the works to clean up the area have now been completed, paving the way for an urban transformation.
The Chief Administrator of the Agency for the Administration of Sequestered and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK), Risena Xhaja, and the Mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci, closely inspected the terrain, which until a few weeks ago served as a warehouse for vehicles blocked by the police.
" There are about 327 vehicles and motorcycles that have been removed from this area and collected in Porto Romano. The rest of the scrap had been left for more than 12 years. Today this space is free and ready for investment ," said Xhaja.
In total, it is three hectares of land, which will be transformed into the largest public space in the city. The project, a joint project between the Municipality of Shkodra and the Albanian Development Fund, foresees the construction of a modern playground for children, recreation space for parents and greenery that will breathe life into an area that has been blocked for decades.
For Mayor Benet Beci, this is a major transformation for Shkodra: " This is an extremely important project for our city. For 30 years, this space has been occupied by rusty cars and had no value for the citizens. Today we have freed it and will turn it into a park for the children of Shkodra. It is a gift to the community and a promise that we are making a reality ."
The investment is expected to start soon and will bring the largest playground to Shkodra, a space that aims to enliven the lives of citizens and become a symbol of the city's transformation towards modern urban standards.
