Heart diseases continue to increase the number of patients in Albanian hospitals. The Head of the Cardiac Surgery Service, Dr. Altin Veshti, in an interview for the show "Health O'Clock", emphasized that stress has become one of the main risk factors.
"Heart attacks in adults have increased significantly. If in Italy the average age for these cases is 70-80 years old, in our country it is 50-60 years old. The main factors that influence are lifestyle, unhealthy diet and obesity. A factor that we totally underestimate, but which I think is becoming one of the most important in Albania, is stress ," said Dr. Veshti.
He added that cardiac checks should start at birth, with a simple examination by a pediatrician.
" All children should have at least one heart murmur heard when they are born. This should be done by a pediatrician, by checking, there is no need for advanced technology; a stethoscope and two hands are enough," he says.
The doctor sharply criticized the lack of attention to medical checkups, especially among children who play sports.
"I had the case of a boy who played football for five years. When we did an EKO in Padua, the professor told me that he had a 2.5 cm hole in his heart. This child played football, but he shouldn't have played ," said the doctor.
Dr. Veshti appealed for increased awareness, emphasizing that the heart needs care from the first day of life and throughout life.
