The President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, revealed in an interview that he had officially separated from Monika Kryemadhi, stating that she was no longer his wife, but his ex-wife.
He said that the idea for separation had also been given to him by his son, who, according to Meta, had said that, "since you have so many tensions and problems, you can find a more peaceful solution."
"Ms. Monika Kryemadhi is my ex-wife and today I have also followed the legal path for this issue and I have also informed my son, Besar Ilir Meta, who has had such an idea before and told me that 'since you have so many tensions and problems, you can find a more peaceful solution' and I believe I have found a solution", said the PL president in June 2024.
Mrs. Kryemadhi told "Voice of America" at the time that she preferred not to comment on her husband's decision and that she first wanted to learn the reasons that had led Mr. Meta to file for divorce, filed on Thursday at the Tirana Court.
Meta had not lived in the family home for several months before filing for divorce. Even in the lawsuit for the dissolution of the marriage, he presented the Freedom Party's address as his personal address. The strained relationship between them was also publicly revealed when the reformatting of the Freedom Party's leadership structures left Mrs. Kryemadhi out of it.
The two also exchanged polemics during the meetings of the Party's leadership forums. Meta emphasized that the rift with the Grand Master began with the issue of mandates, which he called a crime against the Albanian people. He emphasized that now the relationship with the Grand Master has become impossible.
"First, I think she is innocent. Second, Batoni told me at a dinner at 'Kodra e Diellit' that I thought she would share it since the mandates were given. I mentioned the mandate issue because it has been a very big rift between us. It was not a game and it is not a game. The mandate issue is a crime against the Albanian people. I expected a reflection from her. From her and the deputies, and no one called to ask what you think, if you have come out against it."
