Employment expert Arbër Xhihani, on the show "Dita Jonë", has listed some of the main reasons why young people in Albania do not choose to apply through employment offices, despite the high number of vacancies.
According to him, one of the main problems is the misconception about employment offices, which are seen more as institutions for social assistance than as professional structures for employment mediation.
"In Albania, recruitment through friends and acquaintances still prevails, not through professional databases," said Xhihani.
He stressed that low wages remain a deterrent, although their level has increased significantly in the last two years. Currently, the average salary in the country is around 84 thousand lekë, but the concentration of jobs in Tirana makes this salary insufficient to cover living costs.
Xhihani highlighted that technical professions such as mechanics and electricians are currently paid over 100,000 lek gross, while the minimum wage of 50,000 lek does not reflect market reality. He added that informality and non-declaration of real salaries continue to be a serious problem.
According to the expert, the lack of an official calculation of the "living wage" and regional wage imbalances are driving the exodus of young people and forcing businesses to seek labor from abroad.
