After about two hours of marching through the streets of Tirana, the protest called by the Democratic Party has ended. The rally was a photocopy of the protest organized on February 28; no speeches, but Molotov cocktails and fireworks against institutions and a march through the streets of the capital.
The opposition protest began in front of the Prime Minister's Office. Molotov cocktails and fireworks were thrown at the government building, with police responding with tear gas and water cannons. This caused the crowd to disperse and begin a march towards the Ministry of Interior.
Protesters clashed with police cordons at this institution as well, throwing Molotov cocktails and fireworks. Police again dispersed the crowd with tear gas and water cannons.
The opposition protesters' next target was the Socialist Party headquarters, which was surrounded by a large police force. Although unable to approach the headquarters, the opposition protesters did not spare the Molotov cocktails, which reached the courtyard of the headquarters.
The protesters then attempted to go near the former villa of dictator Enver Hoxha, but were stopped by the police, who had blocked the road. The attempt to go towards the Parliament also failed, as the police had taken measures to prevent the protesters from approaching the Parliament building. Under these conditions, the leaders of the Democratic Party, led by Sali Berisha, were forced to end the protest and head towards the Democratic Party headquarters.
Upon arriving at the headquarters, Berisha gave a closing speech. He said that the marches will continue and that the battle against Rama will be more powerful.
"Greetings and boundless gratitude for your courage. You honored this historic date more than ever, the overthrow of the dictatorship 34 years ago. You gave the dictatorship the most deserved blow today. It was a brilliant battle, I guarantee you that the next one will be even more brilliant. This demonstration surpassed any kind of project, the next one will be even more brilliant. There is no peace anymore, bravo, gratitude to you ," said Berisha.
