The intense snowfall in our country has blocked several road axes from the southeast to the north. Despite warnings about bad weather, our country was still unprepared for the snowfall that has "invaded" the country, and as a result, traffic has become difficult on some of the main roads.
Blocked axes in the north
On the Arbri Road and in the Kruja highlands, the road axes are blocked: Arbri Road, Cudhi Kamp-Qafshtame, and Bruze Mal-Skhretë.
The Albanian Road Authority announced that the roads are being cleaned with salt: Kukës-Krumë and Kukës-Ura e Zapoti, in the road segment Dushaj-Sheshi i Trageteve-Lekbibaj at an altitude of over 700m, Qafë Thore, Vau i Dejes-Pukë-Kukës, Fushë Arrëz- Qafe Mali-Kukës, Bajram Curri-Valbonë, Ura Bujan-Qafe Morinë-Tropojë-Shipshan-Sopot-Kërnaje, Bajram Curri-Fierzë.
In the district of Dibra, snowfall has fallen up to 400 meters above sea level, including the cities of Peshkopia and Bulqiza. Some road axes have become impassable, more specifically: Peshkopi-Maqellarë-Bulqizë, Bulqizë-Ura e Vashë-Qafë Murrizë, Peshkopi-Kuben-Kukës.
Also, the road axis Bypass-Qafë Murrizë has become impassable.
Blocked axes in the southeast
Currently, snow has started to fall on the Përrenjas-Qafë Thane road axis, until now this axis is passable.
The snowfall has also covered the mountainous areas in the district of Elbasan. In Steblevë i Librazhdi, the thickness of the snow has reached up to 20 cm. In these cities, the number of police patrols on urban and rural roads has increased due to bad weather.
The contractors are dealing with clearing the roads from snow and throwing salt, at the same time in the areas where there is heavy rain, the materials that have fallen on the roads are being cleaned.
Police urge drivers not to drive without winter tires and chains in areas where snow has fallen. They also requested that citizens avoid unnecessary movements, reduce speed, and respect signage.
