Bad weather, navigation in Vlora suspended

The Vlora Port Authority has suspended sailing for the next 24 hours due to bad weather and rough seas.

According to the announcement of the captaincy in Vlora, starting from 10:00 am this Tuesday and until 06:00 am on Wednesday, there will be a suspension of navigation. Small boats and fishing vessels will not be allowed to sail in or out of the Bay of Vlora.

The suspension of navigation is caused by strong coastal winds that have affected the city. Strong winds blowing from the south-southeast, reaching speeds of 10-15 meters per second, have caused waves in the bay to reach up to 1 meter in height and outside the bay to reach up to 1.5 meters in height, making navigation of these vehicles impossible.

According to the Vlora captaincy, the ferry line with Brindisi will continue sailing as normal, as this ferry can withstand a greater sea force than that.

Meanwhile, to avoid unexpected events on the coast and material damage, the captain's office has called on boat and fishing vessel drivers to secure their vessels on the coast and not go sailing as bad weather also endangers their lives.

Administrators have begun securing fishing boats on the coast to avoid them colliding with the port piers. According to the announcement, hydrometeorological conditions are expected to improve after 06:00 on Wednesday morning.
