Asim Vokshi has officially assumed the position of member of the Constitutional Court. Vokshi was sworn in as President today, as provided for in the Constitution.
Vokshi was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court by the members of the Supreme Court. Vokshi will replace Holta Zaçaj, whose mandate ended on March 10.
Vokshi will serve a full 9-year term, and was elected by the Supreme Court's body of members on October 30.
The Supreme Court declared Asim Vokshi the winner to replace Zaçaj, but the result was contested by the other candidate Naureda Llagami. She claimed in the Administrative Court and then in the Constitutional Court that a vote declared invalid belonged to her, thus making her a constitutional judge.
But the Constitutional Court rejected his request and after that, the presidency set the date for Vokshi's swearing-in.
Holta Zaçaj's departure will be followed by the election of a new president, while it will be temporarily led by deputy president Marsida Xhaferllari.
President Bajram Begaj, since the beginning of this month, has opened the call for candidates to replace Sonila Bejte, another judge who is in the process of leaving, a call which is open until November 30.
