Minor detained by police

During the opposition protest, which took place on Saturday afternoon, several incidents and clashes were recorded between protesters and police forces.

The latter used tear gas in large quantities to disperse the protesters and escorted some of them to the police station.

Among those escorted was a minor child, only 10 years old. The published images have prompted a series of reactions online, as police civilians escort the minor, identified as Romeo K., into a police car.

The police, in a response, stated that they had detained and escorted the minor to the police station after he committed dangerous acts.

"Regarding the escort of a minor to the premises of Police Station No. 1, we clarify that during the actions of the Police services to prevent dangerous behaviors and actions, at the rally held today, a minor was found throwing stones and hard objects at the Police services. For this reason, the minor was taken for verification, from which it turned out that he was 14 years old.

We emphasize that the minor citizen was not held in shared facilities with detained or escorted adults at any time, but remained in an appropriate environment and was treated with care, in accordance with the principles and legal guarantees for minors. He was released immediately after the arrival of his legal representative.

Regarding the actions of the Police officers during the handling of this case, the Directorate of Professional Standards at the General Directorate of the State Police, as well as the Police Supervision Agency, were immediately notified for a full verification of the case," the Police response states.
