In prison since May 12, the Special Court sets the date of the first trial

The Special Court has set October 12, 09:00 a.m. for the first trial session against Alfred Beleri.

The elected mayor of Himara will sit at the table of the defendants, as accused by SPAK of "corruption in elections".

The case in his charge will be examined by the special judge Erjon Çela.

On September 14, the Special Court against Organized Crime and Corruption decided to proceed with the trial of the case of Beler, who was arrested on the charge of active corruption in the elections.

Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 local elections. According to the prosecution, he offered money in exchange for votes in his favor.

The Supreme Court has previously rejected the two appeals made by Alfred Beleri, who has been in prison since May 12.

The Penal College decided not to accept Beler's objections to the arrest in flagrante delicto and to change the security measure "arrest in prison".

Beleri was arrested in the premises of a bar in Himare, just 2 days before the local elections on May 14, after he was caught red-handed with his associate Pandeli Kokaveshi buying votes. Beleri could not take office, as the authorities did not give him permission to take the oath.

The Greek government is also involved in his issues, which calls his arrest illegal and political.

In an interview for the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, asks Prime Minister Rama to explain which law does not allow him to swear in a cell, citing previous precedents.

Beleri, in line with the Greek government, says that he is kept in prison politically and that he has never spoken about the Hellenization of Himara.
