According to INSTAT, in the last two decades, most Albanians in Tirana live in buildings built between 1981-2000. The period 2001-2010 was also active, with 200 mij1% of new housing, while after 2010 constructions have dropped significantly. Pre-1980 buildings make up a small percentage of inhabited housing.
Some of the residents of Tirana have been asked if they live in old or new apartments.
Architect Enea Stavre tells "News 24" that despite being built many years ago, the old houses are safe in the event of an earthquake or natural disaster.
But are the residents who live in old apartments ready to change it with a new apartment, with more comfortable and luxurious conditions?
In Tirana, only about 40,000 dwellings date from before 1960, indicating that the oldest buildings occupy a small fraction of the inhabited space in Albania today.
According to the architect, old houses should be preserved, because they are part of the identity of a country.
