The poor quality of Durrës' water supply network has caused citizens to travel up to 140 km to fill water for family consumption.
Every Sunday, the water source in Shkopet is full, with many citizens from Durrës, Fushë-Kruja, or Kurbin flocking to fill their families with water.
Citizens from Durrës who were near the water source in Shkopet this Sunday said that the network water is not consumed because too much chlorine is added to it due to the depreciation of the pipes.
They state that at least twice or once a month they travel from Durrës to Shkopet to fill up water at this natural source. According to them, the government's propaganda about the drinking water being said to be of high quality is not true. According to them, the network water can only be used for washing and not for drinking.
"I come from Durrës just to fill up with water because the water here is chlorine-free, while there they put chlorine in to clean the pipes. The water there can only be used for washing. You always find at least 5-6 machines filling up with water here, someone else who has better economic opportunities buys it in the store ," one of the residents told "News 24".
Other areas of our country with a water supply network face the same situation. In most of them, water is not consumed, so citizens find alternatives in natural sources.
