Tirana schools start classes in shifts

On Monday, September 8, the pre-university school year begins. Despite the new guidelines, the problems of education remain old. The head of the United Education Union, Alma Lama, said that the schools in the capital this year have not even been painted to welcome the students.

"We continue to have problems that have been carried over into the education system. This year, in fact, schools did not receive the proper attention from the municipality regarding the preparation with painting or the necessary hygiene for the start of the new school year."

This new school year will once again find a large portion of educational institutions operating in two shifts due to the lack of investment in suburban areas.

"There are two schools in Fresk that do not cover the needs of the community. On the other hand, Astiri is also an area that has no investments in schools," she said.

Meanwhile, regarding the instruction to ban phones, the education expert says that this is not the main problem of schools.

"Certainly, phones should not be used in the educational process. In fact, these are minor problems in education and I don't know why they are being treated with so much noise and fuss. In schools, we have much more important issues than discussing phones, which is a daily, well-known and exhausted issue," adds Lama.

On the other hand, Lama said that nearly 12,000 teachers in the education system continue to have the problem of their group salary, which has been reduced by 2,000 lek. He warned that this demotivation is also being reflected in students who choose teaching majors.

"The prices are extremely high and the salaries are insufficient. Doubling the salary would be a motivation for teachers and a motivation for students to choose teaching majors. We have major problems with enrollment in teaching majors. After four years, we will have no math teachers, no science teachers, and no cycle teachers."

The Minister of Education has announced that for greater security in schools, he has increased the number of security officers in schools, reaching 390, but again this figure only covers 30% of schools nationwide. /Klan News/
