The decision of Shkodra District MP Marjana Koçeku, known as "Neomalsorja", to leave the socialist parliamentary group was met with applause and ovations from protesters gathered in the center of Tirana.
During the protest, one of the organizers referred to the MP's decision, describing it as an important step and calling on her to join the civic movement in the square.
"We have to stay in the square, they will fall like dominoes. We appreciate the decision made by MP Marjana Koçeku, but we say that this is only half the job. The other half is to come to the square and sing with us 'Rama, resign'. We will be here until Rama is left alone, when he is in prison," he said.
The protesters' reaction comes just hours after Koçeku announced on social media that she will continue her political activity as an independent MP. In her message, she emphasized that the decision is related to the ideals and values she had before joining a political force.
The departure of "Neomalsorja" is being widely commented on in the political scene, as it comes at a time when critical voices have increased within the Socialist Party towards the party's leadership and the way of governance. For the protesters, this decision is seen as an indication that dissatisfaction with Edi Rama is not only being articulated on the streets, but is also appearing within the majority.
