The Rai 3 documentary about the agreement between Albania and Italy on refugees portrayed Albania as a narco-state.
Analyst Neritan Sejamini, invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, said that according to the definition of a narco-state, Albania can be classified as such a country, because drug interests have infiltrated the country's institutions.
" What is a narco-state? A state in which institutions have been penetrated by money and drug interests. So justice, governance, economy, have been penetrated by drug power. Have drug interests penetrated the government and these? If so then we are a narco state.
There is a UN definition. They say a state in which drug interests have infiltrated legitimate institutions. If the police is penetrated by drug interests, as in Albania, it is a narco state.
It doesn't mean gangs take to the streets with machine guns. It is when legitimate institutions are infiltrated by drug interests.
If it controls justice, it is still a narco-state. There is even a big debate in the Netherlands, whether or not it is a narco-state ," said Sejamini, among other things.
