Starting from 2025, Albania will operate with 5G network technology. From the presentation of the annual report of this institution to the Parliamentary Commission for Production Activities, the head of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, Tomi Frashëri, said that due to high costs, some cities will be selected.
" From next year, the start of using this technology. This year, the auction procedure ends. Starting from next year, the implementation will begin. It will take a 6-month phase to provide the services from the operators. Albania will be included in the dynamics of 5G. We are late. The 3.5 MHz band will be made available for 5G. At first in big cities. With the granting of the 3.5 generation, the budget will be enriched with the revenues that will be collected, the government will think about how to spend them" , said Frashëri.
MPs from both the opposition and the majority raised the problem of internet cables hanging in buildings, a problem for which AKEP blamed the local government, but even the Assembly has been silent about it.
" AKEPI has no duty to force the municipalities. It is a multi-stakeholder job. AKEPI has sent to the assembly and has not received an answer for this. And is committed to help from the technical and regulatory side. AKEP can't go to get the caboose from a house", he added.
When asked about the abuses with the prices of telephone packages, representatives of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority said that it is the dominance of the market by a few operators that is affected by the increase in the prices of mobile services.
