Appeal hearing tomorrow, Veliaj hires American lawyer

Journalist Eni Ferhati reported that according to information obtained, a lawyer from America will be added to the defense of Mayor Erion Veliaj.

But it remains to be confirmed whether Veliaj's other legal defense attorney will be an American lawyer, reports "Euronews Albania".

It is also reported that the lawyer in question, along with current lawyer Maks Haxhia, are expected to hold a meeting with Mayor Erion Veliaj in the Durrës detention facility where he has been held in isolation for 1 month.

The Special Court of Appeals has set March 11 to review the appeal of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj against the security measure of imprisonment.

The hearing will take place at 10:00 AM and this appeal will be reviewed by Judge Engert Pellumbi.

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj was arrested on February 10 of this year by order of SPAK on several charges such as abuse of office, corruption, failure to declare assets and money laundering.

Veliaj has stated that he is innocent and that according to him the arrest is illegal, intended to hit him politically.
