'People who live only to have something and distort their nature by ending up in prison.'
The parish priest of the Catholic Church in Shkodra, Dom Vlash Palaj, harshly attacked Albanian politicians during Sunday mass, considering them the most ignorant and lowest stratum of the people.
In front of the believers, he said that the thirst for power has alienated them and now the sin of corruption is leading them to prison one after another:
"Look at these politicians of ours. With this situation that has been created, they do nothing but show what they are, and I feel sorry for them, because they seem to me to be the most ignorant and lowest stratum of the Albanian people.
Why? Because they are given little power. People have this generosity, they give them little power. They are exercising good, but no, they collect only for themselves.
The problem is not what they collect, but rather what they reveal about the poverty of their souls. That inner misery. People who live only to have something and distort their nature by ending up in prison.
How did you get it, you in prison? We voted for you to do us good. We have no problem, do good for yourself too, but don't abuse it to the point of taking our necks. To the point of taking away our livelihood, especially those who fight fiercely every day just for their daily bread.
There it is unforgivable. Sin leads to death, therefore the sin of corruption leads to prison. It leads to prison! Christ says, sooner or later, everything will come to light. They thirst for power, the poor, therefore they deviate. How could one not say: 'I thirst to serve'?”
