SPAK has had a leading role, especially regarding the arrest of the former President Ilir Meta, the arrest of the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, the criminal prosecution of the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who is accused of corruption, or the investigations of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
Invited to the show "Open" on "News24", journalist Klodiana Lala said that SPAK has two areas where it operates: the fight against corruption at high levels and the fight against organized crime. Lala said that we have a frontal war against organized crime.
"On the basis of data from international partners, we have a war of criminal groups in Shkodër, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan.
There is a clear overview of the links between crime and politics, or where crime money is invested, including gold bars. As far as corruption is concerned, I don't measure the work of SPAK if it struck left or right.
In 1 and a half years, SPAK has attacked well-known politicians, has them under accusation or under investigation, starting with Sali Berisha, Ilir Meta, Ilir Beqaj, Ervis Berberi, the mayor of Tirana, etc. But will SPAK manage to pass the test of important issues, as it is the case of incinerators?", said Lala.
According to her, the issue of incinerators is a touchstone. Similarly, the journalist Lala said that we have the sterilization concession, which is being considered as a structured criminal group, and the head of the group is called Ilir Beqaj, former Minister of Health. She said that SPAK has faced a series of attacks that have come from certain segments.
