Skënder Hita has officially assumed the position of Director General of the State Police today. In a special ceremony, with the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu and the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, Hita was sworn in before taking office.
In his speech, Hita said that after a 25-year journey in the State Police, the priority of his work as Director General is to further improve the image of this organization. Fight crime and corruption also within our ranks, said Hita, as he expressed his gratitude for the trust given to him to be selected as Director General of the State Police.
He said that the State Police is the institution where citizens find trust, while promising an increase in support for every employee of this organization.
Hita stated that he will fight crime without compromise, while adding that one of his work priorities will be increasing safety in schools.
" The uncompromising fight against corruption remains one of the priorities ," said Hita, adding "I swear that I will honorably carry the State Police Flag."
" This coronation as police chief is not only an appreciation, but an obligation to successfully fulfill the duties ," he said.
Hita described this as an important day in his career, emphasizing that he has the honor of assuming the highest position in this institution.
"Strengthening order and security throughout the country is my mission ," Hita declared, underlining his priorities in leading the institution.
"I have the honor to take on the highest position in our organization. I take this special opportunity to thank the Prime Minister and the government. I am grateful to every police officer who serves on duty. The challenge remains, deepening the results and strengthening citizens' trust in the police. The uncompromising fight against corruption, starting from our ranks, strengthening order and security throughout the territory, are my mission," he said.
He then listed the priorities, emphasizing:
-The uncompromising fight against organized crime and corruption, starting from our own ranks;
-Further increase in security parameters in schools and in every community;
-Strengthening order and security throughout the country;
-Modernization of the Police through technology, including the major "Smart City" project and training, according to the best European standards;
-Further increase in transparency and accountability towards citizens;
-Support and motivation for every police officer who performs their duties with honesty and dedication;
-Further strengthening cooperation with international partners and law enforcement agencies at home and abroad.
Minister Lamallari stated that Hita is a career officer in the State Police and a figure of integrity. He said that Hita has shown courage and professionalism in carrying out and fulfilling her duties.
He stressed that the selection of the new leader went through several stages, with the aim of ensuring that the leadership of this key institution was entrusted to a trustworthy figure. “There should have been one and only one winner, but I appreciate all the candidacies that participated in this process,” the minister said.
Focusing on the new director, Lamallari stated that Hita enjoys the full support of the Ministry and the Government, adding that he is a figure with experience and professionalism who guarantees stability and continuity in the leadership of the State Police.
" Take this task at a time when strong connections and determination are required, trust is also a high expectation to lead the modern, professional police forward in line with European standards. Further strengthen professionalism, deepen the fight against lawlessness, and guarantee that the Police remains an institution at the service of citizens and not above them," said Lamallari.
Upon assuming the new position, Hita also receives the major rank of "First Director".
Hita has served in the police with a rising career in the last 10 years. One of the most important tasks was leading the Shkodra Police in 2021. Most recently, Skënder Hita led Fier, while previously he was also the head of the Durrës Police.
Deputy Prime Minister Koçiu said that his election as head of the Police shows how he is progressing on the career ladder.
" The first task of the new police director is to strengthen the police standard, of this organization, which is among the most important organizations of the Albanian state. The police has a key role in the country's EU integration process, " said Koçiu.
