Psychologist Jonida Haxhiu has commented on the serious event in Durrës, where a 41-year-old woman ended her life by drinking fostoski after they opened a fake profile on the 'TikTok' platform.
She said that the event was serious and affected the whole society, while adding that we are all at risk from exposure on social networks.
She further spoke out against the closure of the 'TikTok' platform, endlessly arguing other social networks where we can be exposed.
" It was an event that affected us all. A mother of 4 children was told that on her daughter's birthday she ended her life in the most tragic way. I see several elements that could threaten this woman in this tragic end. The media has blamed and mentioned TikTok and I don't want to excuse it. Such platforms are dangerous, as we are exposed and know little how to protect ourselves. This is the initial problem, but there are many others. It is the mentality where this woman did not find support for this situation. Whatever the conflict was, there are ways to resolve it.
We have had stressful situations due to the distribution of inappropriate footage and the victims have experienced stress. A solution must be found to cope with this situation. We say we must, must, must... But what each of us must do is personal care. I don't see banning TikTok as a solution, as there are plenty of them. Caring for each of us starts with ourselves. It is not the solution to give children a smartphone or a tablet, as not every parent has information about what is hidden further ", said Haxhiu in "News 24".
