Gjon Shkambi, the uncle of the author Elvis Shkambi who killed judge Astrit Kalaja, will return today to the Court of Appeal in Tirana, where the serious incident took place.
Shkambi is requesting a lighter security measure than prison arrest and his request will be reviewed today at 10:00 in this court.
The appeal filed by Banush Koxhaj, a security guard at this court, is also expected to be reviewed. The 30-year-old nephew, also in custody, has not appealed the decision to request a change in the security measure.
The serious incident occurred at noon on October 6 after Judge Kalaja ruled against the Shkambi family. At that moment, the 30-year-old took out the gun he had managed to bring into the courtroom without any problems and shot at the judge, as well as the opposing party, father and son, Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj, who were injured.
The prosecution accuses Gjon Shkambi of only knowing about his nephew's plan against the opposing party in the trial and of having the role of instigator in the attempt to kill father and son over property disputes.
The court security officer is accused of abuse of duty after he did not move from his position even though the detector signaled the presence of a weapon when Gjon and Elvis Shkambi entered the courthouse.
