With eyes on donors, amputees need prostheses

Vjosa and Dea are sisters. 10 years ago they were hit by a car shortly after leaving work and were returning home. Both sisters suffered the same fate in terms of injuries, each losing a leg.

Enver Shkopi also suffered a serious accident at work. He was an electrician when high voltage charred both of his arms.

Besnik Gjoka's life is even more difficult. In addition to being unable to move, he also needs a device to restore his voice and keep his larynx clean from contamination.

Albion has never walked. He was paralyzed on the third day of his birth due to illness. The hope is that he will walk if he is given the opportunity for surgery, says his mother, writes A2.

For Artjan, today is a happy day. The prosthesis he is trying on is comfortable and he can walk without much problem. Inspiration for these people who need prostheses and other services is Izet Onuzi. A train accident took all four limbs, but together with his son he has opened a workshop for the production of prostheses.

The eyes to help these people are from donors, as Izet says that hundreds of patients today have prostheses thanks to their contributions. Abdulrahman is a Turkish-German citizen. He came to Izet's workshop by chance, but since that day he has been committed to securing as many donations as possible to help with prostheses and other health services: "7 years ago I lost my son who was two years old. At that moment my world collapsed and I said, what am I going to do now? From here I started to create an association for donations to help people in need. They learned about the production center by chance when we came to Albania and now we are friends and supporters of each other. My brother Izet needs us, but we also need him to help these people. We will come back next time in a few months. We will not help these people only with money, but we want to give them hope. When I see my brother Izet with four amputated limbs who always laughs, gives me courage, I feel very good and motivated. That's why it is important that we help people together ."

In Europe, Albanians are seen as a wealthy people and Abdulrahmani often says they face difficulties in raising funds: " It's a little difficult to collect donations in Germany or Europe, because when they see the name of Albania or Turkey for aid, they ask why? They see Albanians or Turks in Germany with expensive cars and think that these are rich countries. But, here the reality is different. Therefore, we need real stories to help, so that donors see and believe that there is really a great need for help among these people and trust us."

The demand for prostheses in this workshop is high. The cost for one goes up to 1500 euros, a sum that people with amputated limbs cannot afford. Therefore, the call goes out to every donor to contribute to the production of prostheses, so much needed for these people./ A2CNN
